Amsterdam

Holland is only at a stone’s throw away and nevertheless the country is strikingly different. Passing the city of Antwerp, we cross the Dutch border and driving through the endless polders with typical windmills we reach the Amsterdam area after a drive of 3 hrs.

First we visit a traditional crafts centre and get familiar with all that makes the glory of Holland : tasty cheese, wooden clogs and beautiful pottery. Then, following the river Amstel, we make a photo stop at one of those beautiful windmills. Driving directly to the center of Amsterdam by passing the Dutch National Bank and the famous Heineken brewery, we will offer you the opportunity to make a boat tour along the many picturesque canals (optional).

From here, we go to the famous Damsquare, where our guide will make a walking tour along the Royal Palace of the Dam, the red light area along the canals, the house of Anne Frank, the shopping streets.

Free Time .
We leave Amsterdam at 6.15 pm. And drive back to Brussels.

Antwerp

Antwerp is Belgium’s 2nd largest city and Europe’s 2nd largest harbor. The city has preserved its historic character and many buildings remind us of its rich past. Above all, it is the city of RUBENS, the world famous master of the 17th century.

We drive to the ancient fortress of the city. Here we start our walking tour along the “Meathouse” to the Market Square with its ancient houses and Our Lady’s Cathedral (entrance fee included). This cathedral boasts many treasures among which 4 of Rubens’ masterworks: “The Erection of and the Descent from the Cross, the Ascension of the Virgin and the Resurrection.” Some free time in the city center.

Then by coach to the beginning of the port with its splendid new MAS-museum that has been opened.You have a splendid view from the 9th floor of the port, Europe’s 2nd largest. Also here you can have a look at the Diamonds of the Diamond Pavillion as Antwerp is the world’s diamond center. MAS is closed on Mondays.Free access to the Panorama.

Return to Brussels by coach.

Bastogne-Battle of the Bulge

We need 90 min to reach the US cemetery of HENRI-CHAPELLE, where almost 8000 GI’s lay at rest. Then we continue along the north-eastern frontline of the Battle of the Bulge and admire in BULLINGEN/BUDGENBACH the monument honouring the fierce resistance of THE BIG RED ONE, so important to delay the German offensive. At Malmedy/Baugné we are honouring the 84 American Prisoners, murdered by the SS. After a lunch at leisure in Stavelot, we call at the famous Königstiger tank in La Gleize, another village where fighting has been fierce. Our next stop is the German military cemetery of RECOGNE, here are buried almost 7000 man. We drive through Foy…where a few partially remaining foxholes are still slightly visible at the edge of the woods. We stop at the monument remembering the military killed here, and soon we arrive at the famous MARDASSON memorial, at the outskirts of Bastogne. After having visited the memorial, you will visit the new BASTOGNE WAR MUSEUM (entrance included). In Bastogne, we do a brief stop at the central Square with the bust of General Mc Auliffe next to a the Sherman tank. A little further, we have the monument honouring the memory of the famous General Patton. We continue our tour and arrive in La Roche with its medieval castle and the British destroyer tank. Via Marche we drive straight to the outskirts of Dinant – the Rocher Bayard at the river Meuse was the ultimate point of the German Offensive, but they could never cross it. Through the nice Meuse-valley till Lustin and then via the highway back to Brussels.

Bruges Express

Brussels City Tour

We start our visit by driving along the magnificent St. Michaels’ cathedral towards the Laeken district : we see the Royal Residence, the Chinese Pavillion, the Japanese Tower and the world-famous Atomium. Ghent Bruges

After an hour’s drive, we arrive in GHENT and visit St Bavo’s Cathedral, home of the world famous late medieval “Mystic Lamb” painting (optional visit, closed on Sundays).

During the city tour you will see all important ancient buildings for which the city is so famous: the Belfry, St Nicholas’ Church and the famous Graslei with its historic buildings, the fortified castle of the Count of Flanders.

Next we take you to BRUGES, where we first visit the dreamy Lake of Love and the beguinage where you can find peace and quiet. Time for lunch.

Afterwards we start our walking tour and discover all the highlights of the city: Saint John’s Hospital, Our Lady’s Church with the statue by Michelangelo (optional), the Market Square with the Belfry and the medieval Chapel of the Holy Blood. Don’t forget your walking shoes though! In Flanders Fields (Brussels)

We leave Brussels in the direction of the German Military Cemetery of Vladslo, where Käthe Kollwitz Sculptures of the “Grieving Parents” is very moving. Then to the small city of Diksmuide where we visit the “Trench of Death” . We see the very im pressive “Gate of Peace” and the Ijzertower. Passing along the Peace Mill, Houthulst and the Canadian Monument in St. Julien we arrive in Paschendaele/Langemark, where during terrible battles uncountable numbers of man have been killed.

Time for bread meal in the old cheese factory .

Then we visit the famous Commonwealth cemetery of TYNE COT, where some 35.000 man lay at rest. Further to the ST CHARLES POTYZE French military cemetery with its Calvaire, honouring more than 4000 French casualties. Then we arrive at ESSEX FARM- former field hospital. Here John Mc Crae wrote his famous poem “In Flanders Fields”.

We are now close to Ypres, where we visit the UNESCO-listed museum of “in Flanders Fields” that is situated in the world famous Cloth Hall. Along Hell Fire corner we arrive at Hill 60, so famous for the “tunneling” war and the Caterpillar Crater, that we visit. A short drive brings us back to Ypres, where you have free time for dinner .

At 8 pm sharp we attend the moving LAST POST CEREMONY at the Menin gate.

After the end, we immediately drive back to Brussels, where we arrive at around 10.00 pm.

The bread meal lunch in Passendaele and the entrance to the “Flanders Fields museum” in Ypres are INCLUDED.

Luxembourg & Bastogne

We need a 3 Hrs drive to arrive in Luxemburg, the capital of the Grand Duchy.

Our guide takes you to the many historic sites of the city, both in the upper and lower part of the city. The picturesque historical town, the cathedral, the palace of the Grand Duke and the Place des Armes. During our walk towards to the lower part of the city you will have an excellent vieuw on some buildings of the EU on the plateau of Kirchberg. Once in the valley you will admire the important fortifications and kazemates, the historic abbey of Neumünster, the Wenceslaswall and the beautiful setting on the Alzette river. Before leaving, you have free time in the city center.

Through the green hills of the Belgian Ardennes we drive to Bastogne. During Christmas 1944 the town was the site of the worst battle between the allied (American) and German forces. We visit the Mardasson-memorial. After a stop at the Place Mac Auliffe, we return to Brussels.
