This tour is a combination of our tours AH29 The Blue Lagoon and AH16 Krýsuvík Geothermal Area & Kleifarvatn Lake and is ideal for those who want to add a bit extra to their Blue Lagoon visit.

After bathing in the mineral rich waters at the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa you will head back to Reykjavík through the lunar landscape of Krýsuvík. A stop will be made at the small fishing village of Grindavík before heading towards the geothermal area at Seltún where you will have time to explore the boiling mud pools.

On our way back to Reykjavík we will drive through the lunar landscape of Krýsuvík and make a stop at the largest lake in the Reykjanes Peninsula, Kleifarvatn.

On this tour you can enjoy some of Iceland‘s geological attractions in the capital‘s backyard. The tour starts with a transfer from Reykjavík to the Blue Lagoon where the guided tour starts at 14:00.

From the Blue Lagoon we will drive to Grindavík fishing village where we will make a short stop down by the harbour. From Grindavík the journey continues along the coastline and onwards through the lava fields. Our next stop will be at Krýsuvík geothermal area where you can take a walk between the boiling mud pools and smelly solfatares.

The tour proceeds to the largest lake on the Reykjanes peninsula, Kleifarvatn. The lake is situated on the fissure zone of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge and is one of the deepest lakes of the country, 97 meters. In the year 2000 the water level shrunk dramatically after an earthquake. Today the lake level has recovered but on south shore of the lake you can still see steam rising up from the border of the lake from numerous hot springs which were revealed after the earthquake period. We will stop at a viewpoint close by the lake before heading back to Reykjavík.

Please note that there is no time on tour AH16 to bathe in the Blue Lagoon. For those who want to have time to bathe in the Blue Lagoon we recommend booking tour AH17, which offers time at the Blue Lagoon before the start of this tour.

AH19 Reykjanes Peninsula tour description:
The Reykjanes Peninsula tour offers extreme variety of landscapes dotted with fissures, lava fields and geothermal activity. We depart from Reykjavík heading towards the community of Sandgerði, one of the country‘s major fishing points. The tour continues along the coast line through Miðnesheiði moor which rises up from the lowland. We will stop at the stone built church of Hvalneskirkja from the year 1887.
The journey proceeds through lava fields onwards to Sandvík where two of the earth‘s tectonic plate split. At Sandvík you will get the opportunity to walk over a symbolic footbridge which crosses a fissure which provides clear evidence of the rift between the European and the North American tectonic plates.

We head towards the coast for the lighthouse of Reykjanesviti, one of the oldest lighthouses in Iceland. Weather permitting you can glimpse at the island of Eldey, which rises from ocean, and witnes the foamy waves beating up on the dark rocks. Close by is the country‘s largest mud pool, Gunnuhver, which will be our next stop. According to a legend a great ghost nicknamed Gunna caused great disturbance in the area until a priest set a trap for her and she fell into the 300°C hot spring. The area offers unique colours which will not disappoint the photographer.

Break at the Blue Lagoon with time to enjoy the Blue Lagoon:
Tour AH19 ends at the Blue Lagoon where you have time from 11:30 to 14:00 to enjoy the Blue Lagoon. Please be aware that tour AH16 leaves the Blue Lagoon parking lot at 14:00, so please make sure you are at the parking lot on time.

AH16 Krýsuvík Geothermal Area & Kleifarvatn Lake tour description:

We started rafting the Hvítá River (pronounced Kveetau) almost 25 years ago and since those early days it has been the most popular adventure activity in Iceland. Travel through the south Iceland farming lands and to the black sand beaches, thundering waterfalls, powerful volcanoes and majestic glaciers on its south coast.

The first stop is at Seljalandsfoss waterfall where we can walk behind this magnificent wall of water. The tour continues with an easy hike on the ancient ice of Sólheimajökull glacier with a knowledgeable and certified glacier guide.

Then onwards for a leisurely stroll along the black sand beach of Reynisfjara. The beach features stacks of basalt columns that wall off surrounding cliffs scattered with caves.

On this fantastic whale watching tour you will observe the whales in their native environment which is an unforgettable experience.

We will sail on Faxaflói bay, home of a unique variety of whales and dolphins. The local bird life is also diverse, including such birds as the Puffin, Arctic Tern, Gannet and many varieties of Gull.

Winter whale watching is scheduled daily from October 1st to March 31st. The most common sightings in the winter are dolphins, humpback whales and killer whales, hardly any minke whales are from November through March. For your comfort and warmth, we have special suits on board that we can lend you but we do advise you to wear warm clothes. We also offer hot drinks and light refreshments in our on-board café. Alternatively, you can sit inside the boat to stay warm, where you can enjoy the view from large windows.

There are excellent guides on all of the tours tours who tell you about our journey, describing what you can see and where to look, together with an introduction and safety guide. We will tell you about the seabirds and nature in the Faxafloi bay. How much we can see will depend on the sea conditions and season, but our qualified guides are more than happy to try to answer all your questions.

No two whale watching trips are the same and we need to be flexible and organize your trip by taking sea conditions, weather and seasons into account. We rarely have to go further than 15 nautical miles from the harbor.

After the tour you can explore the Whale Exhibition Center that enables you to witness the mysteries of the ocean. It is situated in an old capelin-fishing vessel “Fífill” which has been transformed into an exhibition and information centre on whales and seabirds.

The entrance to the Whale Exhibition Room is free of charge for whale watching passengers. A return transfer is not included in the tour price. The harbour is just a “stones throw” away from the city centre, so it will only take you a few minutes to reach the city centre on foot after your tour. Local buses, taxis and a shuttle service (offered by the whale watching company Elding), are available to those that do not want to go downtown (extra charge).
